Located in West Maui, Hawaii, on the coast along Hawaii Route 30, the town of Lahaina was the original capital city of the Hawaiian Islands and home of the Hawaii’s royal family. The village was also a major port. Today, Front Street is the place for much of the activity of the urban center. Since the 1820s, this street has been the place for shops and restaurants and still, today it is lined with stores, art galleries, markets and restaurants with live entertainment each evening. In Banyan Tree Square is a large, historic banyan tree William Owen Smith planted in 1873 celebrating fifty years of the presence of missionaries in Lahaina.

Beside the historic Pioneer Inn is an old fort with original cannons. The town has many other fascinating historic homes and churches. People can take a walking tour of Lahaina’s Old Town. Yearly in January, the nearby Kapalua resort hosts the SBS Championship for the PGA tour. Many golf lovers from all over the world play the spectacular courses at all other times of the year. In the harbor, people can go whale watching. When exploring the town, travelers find that Lahaina has history, entertainment, sports activities and fun.
